Senior Bill Torre was 3-for-4 with an RBI and sophomore Andrew Heck went 2-for-4 and scored one of Duquesne's runs.

Senior starter Gary Pierpont (3-7) was charged with the loss. Duquesne is now 14-40, 7-18 in A-10 play.

The story of the gane was told in the third inning when Massachusetts used seven hits for seven runs capped by Matt Gedman's two-run homer for a 7-0 lead over the visiting Dukes.

A single from freshman Rick Devereaux and another by Torre drove in Duquesne's two runs in the fifth. UMass added three in the bottom of that frame and one in the sixth for the final score of 11-2.

Massachusetts improved its record to 24-24, 15-11 in Atlantic 10 play.

The teams cloe out the series with a 12:00 noon contest on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Earl Lorden Field.
